Possibilities

Starting something new or starting over again always makes me a bit excited. Today, I am thankful for new possibilities.

Still Would Stand All Time

Last night, I had dinner with a friend that I had not seen in eight years. When he picked me up, it was as if time had stood still. He still looked the same. We were still able to communicate in the same way. I could still trust him with my craziness. (lol)

I have a few other friends in my universe that I don't talk to or see regularly, but I know that when we do get together, we can fall right back into our friendship without missing a beat.

I am thankful for the strength of my relationships with my true friends.

Ponytail

Ever since I first saw Olivia Newton-John in "Grease", I have wanted a ponytail that I could wear high on my head and have it hang low.

As with a lot of women, I have gone through my fair share of hair style changes. Once, I even shaved it all off and wore it short like a man. That lasted for a few years. I got bored with the look and began letting my hair grow while I was in law school. Growing out your hair is never a fun experience. Those in between stages are horrible. There were many a time that I wanted to give up and shave it all over again, but I had this reoccurring vision of me in a black Armani suit with a white button-down shirt, black heels, and fabulous diamond stud earrings, strutting up to the counsel table and proclaiming, "My client pleads not guilty". In that vision, I had the Olivia Newton-John ponytail. I decided that growing my hair out was going to be a test of patience and faith.

Seven years later, while I don't have the Armani suit yet, I am sporting the high ponytail that occasionally startles me as it tickles the base of my neck.

I am thankful for my ponytail and the patience and faith that it took for me to acquire it.

Honeysuckle

This morning, while walking Matilda, I caught a whiff of honeysuckle. I love that smell. It takes me back to my days at Holy Cross Regional Catholic School. During recess, my friends and I would pluck the honeysuckle blossoms, snap off the back, and suck out the nectar. Those were the good ole days.

Today, I am thankful for the smell of honeysuckle, made more pungent by this morning's rain.

Zzzzzzzzzz

I fell asleep after 11 last night, woke up at 4 and was asleep again before 4:30. I got some sleep last night and for that I am truly thankful. I'm feeling better than I was yesterday, but not quite back to normal yet. Thank you, Lord, that tomorrow is Saturday!!!

Effective Alarm Clock

I am not in a good head space today. Last night was the fourth consecutive night of interrupted sleep I've had this week. Thankfully, last night I was awake for less than an hour. The three previous nights had me awake for an hour and a half or more before I fell back to sleep. The fumes I was running on yesterday are gone and today I'm operating on sheer will. I'm tired and my body is starting to hurt.

The best that I can come up with today is that I am thankful that the Lord allowed me to wake up this morning and see another day. My prayer is that he will let me sleep through the night today and feel rested when He wakes me up tomorrow morning.

Little beauties

While walking Matilda in the wet grass, I looked down and saw this flower on the tip of my boot. It made me smile. For that, I am thankful.

After the storm

Today, I am thankful for this view that comes after the storm. It reminds me that something good always comes from difficult times - if you're willing to recognize it.

My shedding cuddle monster.

Today, I am thankful for this furry little face. Matilda forces me to show love and affection, first thing every morning, regardless of how I feel. She requires me go outside twice a day and enjoy the beautiful scenery that I would otherwise miss. She makes me laugh daily. I am so thankful that she is a part of my life.

Payday

As I sit here realizing that I don't have enough money to pay all the bills due before the next payday, I have to be thankful that I have a job at all.

The strut

Today, I am thankful for that inexplicable thing that happens to me on the inside when I put on a pair of heels. There's an extra boost of confidence that comes with a feminine edge when I don a pair of heels, especially when I'm at work. It makes my courtroom strut that much more powerful. It carries over while strolling through the grocery store. It lasts even after I take off the heels, put on the sneakers, and walk the dog. Thank you for whatever it is that happens when I put on a pair of heels. :)

Made the short walk longer.

Today, I'm thankful for the wind that cooled things off enough for Matilda and I to take a long walk this evening. The heat got to her yesterday and she almost fell out. Today, because of the wind, she was able to run around for awhile.

Easter

I am thankful that God sent his son, Jesus, to earth. I am thankful that He chose to die to save me from my sins. I am thankful that on the third day, He arose and ascended to heaven and sits on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
